A SEARCH, A DISCOVERY

The origins of the Chinon Terroir

Next to the abbey, in the hamlet, the vineyard of the Château is established on the original lands of the Chinon appellation. On this limestone hill called “Puy,” forming the right bank of the Vienne, the old vines of Château de St Louans are spread between Clos du Pin and Clos des Aubuis. From the top of the hillside, the vines overlook the Vienne River : a real jewel, a great terroir, able to produce wines ready to stand the test of time.

Wines for Aging and Gastronomy

The Chenin is pressed immediately and then vinified in barrels between 0 and 2 years old for 12 to 18 months. Aged on lees and regularly stirred, the wine is nourished by the lees, gaining in fullness and complexity. The Cabernet Franc is destemmed and then gravity-fed into vats for a slow maceration of 3 weeks before being aged in barrels for 2 years.

Red or white, a great terroir is recognized by its ability to assert itself beyond vintage variations. These are wines for aging and gastronomy that reveal their complexity after a few years in the cellar.
